about us

Verbatim Books is a used and rare bookstore which features a wide and eclectic range of gently-loved and antiquarian books. We also carry new titles from over 120 local authors. Our zine corner is full of stuff made by local zine and chapbook creators, as well as some of the best from distributors such as Burn All Books, Pioneers Press, Microcosm Publishing, Tiny Splendor, and more. Our walls are covered with work by San Diego artists and photographers, which we hope will enhance your browsing and reading experience. Join us!

We are now buying every day from 10 AM - 7 PM!

We pay approximately 30% in cash or 50% in store credit of the value of the books we can use. Store credit is good just like cash in our store; use it at any time and on any product.

Please note that we are extremely selective about the quality of out books, though we do buy all types and genres of books.

Please feel free to call ahead if you have a very large amount of books (over 5 boxes) and we can try to arrange a time to help you bring them into the store. For your convenience, we can also make appointments.

Send us a message and we'll get back to you ASAP.

map & directions

We are located in the heart of North Park, San Diego. Our nearest cross-street is North Park Way. We are one block south of University Avenue on 30th Street. Please feel free to call us at (619) 501-7466 if you would like us to help direct you to our location.

why don't you have an online inventory?

We feel that the one of the benefits to being a brick-and-mortar bookstore in the age of instant gratification is to experience the pleasure of browsing the unknown and unfamiliar, and the joy of discovering something new. It is important to us to try and reserve our selection for physical browsers in order to heighten this experience. Of course, we are happy to search for specific books for you if you contact us directly. If you would like to browse online and yet still support a local business, please check out La Playa Books in Point Loma, Bluestocking Books in Hillcrest, or Adams Avenue Books in Normal Heights. Thanks for shopping local!
